Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The one-time leader was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he remained under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This encompassed seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a document approving the detention, the magistrate said data from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the confusion caused by the protest called by his son.

His child, his son Flávio, who serves as a senator, called for a meeting of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your nation, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your sofa? I invite you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so followers could "pray for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our land."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of Justice Moraes's decision was the potential of his transfer to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a history of planning to ask for protection through a diplomatic representation", a declaration said.

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow conservative nationalist American leader Trump, leading him to enact a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

He is being held in a national police facility in the capital and will have a custody hearing on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on the previous day that the his legal team asked the Supreme Court to permit him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with digital surveillance.

They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be authorized to leave his home for healthcare, saying he needed frequent medical attention for respiratory ailments and other illnesses.

Details of Guilty Verdict

He was determined responsible of heading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he lost the presidential race to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a plan which included plans to murder the current president and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been presiding over Bolsonaro's trial.

The scheme was stopped because it failed to get the endorsement of the military leaders. Lula was sworn in without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a week later, on January 8th, many Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed public facilities in the national capital, Brazil's capital.

The law enforcement intervened and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The magistrates found that the protesters had been incited by Bolsonaro whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to take action, reestablish control and return him to office.

At the time, the legal team called the 27 years and three months sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also barred from running for public office until the year 2060 - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was designed to prevent him running in the next presidential race.
